Ryanair’s flash sale is on and there are £4.99 Bristol flights

yanair has launched a flash sale which is offering travellers extremely cheap flights to Europe. The budget airline has slashed its prices on thousands of flights, with fares currently available from £4.99 one way from Bristol Airport to France. And what makes the snap sale even more tempting is there are quite a lot of dates to choose from, as the deals are valid for travel between November 2019 through to May 2020. This means travel over school holidays could actually be affordable for the entire family this year – including the Christmas break. You can already book the discounted flights on the Ryanair website but you’ll need…

Ikea celebrating

After 100 years of iconic design, the Swedish furniture megastore is paying homage to the past by relaunching a tight selection of hand-picked favorites. Named the Gratulera series, IKEA will be rolling out these nostalgic styles in three separate collections that embody distinct periods in the company’s design history: the 1950s-1960s, the 1970s-1980s, and the 1990s-2000s.  “Each launch is very different, signifying its time period—from dark woods with a classic expression, to a very playful style with strong colors, to a more minimal look with natural light woods and graphic colors,” explains the company’s creative leader, Karin Gustavsson. Here’s a…

SIX ON SATURDAY

Between showers, thunderstorms (and going to work), it’s been a busy week in the garden – lots to cut back, deadhead or dig out! There’s a distinctly Autumnal feel creeping in that’s not yet welcome – I’m hoping for some warmer sunnier days during the next couple of weeks. So to remind myself that it is still summer, my six this week are colourful flowers and there’s plenty of life in them yet! Tithonia rotundiflora ‘Torch’ or mexican sunflower is an annual in this country, and it’s very easily grown from seed. This vibrantly orange flowering plant grows to five feet…

SIX ON SATURDAY – OH WHAT A BEAUTIFUL MORNING!

After a few wet days, the sun’s out for what looks like a lovely August bank holiday weekend in Wales! I can almost smell the barbecue Chris is planning for this evening, but in the meantime, I’ve enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the garden with my camera. It’s certainly looking great – after all the hard work Chris has put in pruning, trimming and hedge cutting this week. It’s already 24 degrees outside – the garden is a sun trap during the morning and it’s far too warm for work, looks like we’ll be getting the sun loungers out and…

BUSY IN WALES!

Summer weather this year has been a heady mix for plants and trees in our garden in Wales, growth rates have been phenomenal! We hadn’t been for a couple of weeks and as our most recent visits have been full of social gatherings, there’s been little opportunity for garden maintenance. As a result we were faced with some major restorative work towards the end of August – sometimes it’s a little hard to feel enthusiastic about weeding, pruning and significant hedge cutting works – but prevarication gets one nowhere – these jobs just had to be done! Teamwork was the…

SIX ON SATURDAY – OLD AND NEW

The first week of Autumn brings a sense of both old and new; sadly many flowers are now spent for this year and leaves are started to gather on the ground – but exciting preparation for next year is beginning with bulb planting season upon us! It’s also time to plant out young specimens grown from seed, this week all the foxglove ‘Apricot’ plugs I grew from seed have been taken from their cosy pots and sited out in the garden and I’m preparing to do the same with the wallflowers (both new from seed and cuttings from last year)…

FIVE REASONS TO LOVE AUTUMN

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve heard people bemoaning the end of summer over the last 12 days – almost as if the start of Autumn equates to a period of mourning! Alright, I agree that not every day is ideal for the gardening enthusiast in Winter (although there’s always something to do), but Autumn – surely not! We’re just into September, we’re still warm and it’s such a wonderful month for the garden – for so many reasons! Firstly, the garden continues to flourish, there’s stunning colour and form in our gorgeous roses, dahlias, asters, heleniums,…
